I have often seen the devastating results that are fraught upon New Afrikan individuals that do not study their history either before or after becoming involved with Afrikan spirituality. Just as the Jewish and Catholic people among others promote the sanctity and necessity of studying their history it is in no way that Afrikan people should be any different. We must have a thorough understanding of our historical circumstances all the way into the now in order to make a real Sankofa - a returning to make us whole once more.
