Themes Found in Odu Ifa Chapters

What follows are some of the major themes found in several of the Odu Ifa. This is important because we must learn the energies behind these Odu. Knowing the energy of an Odu can help us assess problems and blessings based on individual and collective need. Also, this helps to empower New Afrikans not initiated to Ifa to know more about the process at hand. Please email any questions to me at awo@newafrikanvodun.com.

Eji Ogbe.Tells us the reason that we must call on the spirit Ela when doing ritual was because Orunmila instructed us to do so as he was leaving earth. This is why all awo are to call Ela three times to descend and assist in prayers and ritual. Ela gives the messages to Orunmila.
Ogbe Ofun.Orunmila descends the coconut tree and thus receives the famous appelation "Agbonniregun". Agbon means "coconut" in Yoruba language.
Ogbe Otura. Royal incarnations first incarnate in this Odu Ifa. Some people that this Odu comes out for may need to wear a special hat. Always remember that in Afrikan culture (from an Ifa perspective) all things natural to Olodumare's will have an Odu or blueprint.
Irosun Oturupon.Tells us to not crush our spirituality, and to not over-intellectualize things. Let spirit be the final decision maker.
Irosun Okanran.Advises us to share and against selfishness.
Irosun Ogbe. This Odu speaks of treachery and rivalry. Do not romanticize everything. Check with Olokun for wealth.
Odi Owonrin. This Odu is known as the fortress of the town. One's Egbe may need fortification. Egbe is one's society of friends in heaven.
Odi Irosun. Olodumare gives Orunmila the ikin Ifa to divine with.
Ogbe Osa.Friends become enemies and enemies become friends. This does not necessarily mean literal enemies or friends. It could be that you may start having associations with people that you did not think worth it at the time or that you may end up seeing people in their true light (friends become "enemies"). Also, this Odu for a woman may mean that she comes from a long line of powerful women.
Iwori Odi.This is the Odu that says that there is no child bearing woman that cannot give "birth" to Orunmila. This Odu speaks against LESBIANISM.
Ofun Irete. This Odu speaks against HOMOSEXUALITY and LESBIANISM.

There will be more Odu Ifa prsented soon. Ire ooooo.
